Description
In the Kesen region, the warmest region in Iwate Prefecture, a rare persimmon called “Koeda persimmon” has been cultivated since ancient times and has been loved as a dried persimmon. The most distinctive feature of Koeda persimmons is that they have no seeds. There is an anecdote that once upon a time, when Kobo Daishi visited the Kesen area, the local people blessed him with persimmons, and in gratitude, Daishi made the local persimmons seedless.
Even today, persimmons grown in the Kesen region are seedless, however, if they are grown in a region other than Kesen, the persimmons will grow to have seeds. Kesen Koeda persimmons are made into sweet and beautiful dried persimmons through repeated manual processes such as drying, kneading, and shaping. This variety has small fruits with a strong sweetness, making it a very delicious persimmon.
