Description
Ponkan which is originally native to India was introduced to Kagoshima in 1897 via Taiwan from China. Ponkan Orange “Pon” is said to have been derived from “Poona” in western India, and “Kan” is said to have been derived from citrus “Citrus”.
It has a strong sweetness and modest acidity. The flesh is soft, high water content, and fragrance. The pericarp can be easily peeled off by hand, therefore they are enjoyed by all ages
