Description
Facing the Seto Inland Sea (瀬戸内海) and blessed with long daylight hours and little rain, mandarin oranges have been cultivated for over 100 years in Soho district of Nio, Mitoyo City. Among them, over-winter ripe oranges are the best-selected high-quality oranges that are usually harvested after being ripened on the tree for about two months by hanging one bag at a time.
The best proof that the tangerines are ripened on the tree are the fresh leaves attached to it. Generally, the leaves are removed in order to reduce acidity (and increase sweetness) after harvesting, but “Fruit Monogatari” winter mandarin comes with leaves. By surviving the harsh cold and fully ripening on the tree, the sugar content is higher than regular mandarin oranges! It has a extremely high sugar content of 13-15 degrees and thin pericarp which is easy to peel.
