Description
Takasago (高砂) is native to the United States, where it’s original name is Rockport Picaro. It was later was introduced to Japan in 1872 (Meiji 5) and the name was changed to Takasago, a congratulatory Japanese name, during the latter half of the Meiji era. The flesh is milky white and has a lot of juice, with moderate acidity and moderate sweetness. It is a popular variety where it is said to be more delicious than Sato Nishiki.
Sakuranbo season is available from May to July, and is one of the most-sought choice as gifts in Japan.
